Lunar New Year for Kids!

Lunar New Year is such a vibrant celebration to learn about. It was not until I worked at a bakery in Seattle eight years ago that I was introduced. My friend decided we should make Lunar New Year cupcakes. Let me tell ya capturing monkeys on cupcakes is not the easiest task.

Fast forward to today, and I am teaching my littles a bit about so many cultures. I want them to have a mindset of kindness and respect of others sacred experiences.

We made a fun lantern craft that paired perfectly with the book A Sweet New Year for Ren. My friend Yonaia recommend it, and it did not disappoint. There's a recipe included that I noted to try next year.

We used balloons, red tissue paper, black yarn, yellow construction paper, yellow streamer, dowels, and glue.
All left over items I had from cake projects and birthday celebrations.

Here are a few crafts we have done in years past.

We also made steamed bao buns that look like oranges. (Well, kinda) Citrus fruits represent prosperity for Lunar New Year.

I hope this helps if you are looking to share in this beautiful celebration. I'll encourage y'all to seek out Asian American bloggers as well!

XO,

My heart is with all who are grieving the lives taken from the Asian American community yesterday. I mourn with you.

  1. Love the crafts and that you take the time to get into the kitchen with the babies as well! So intentional. 🤍
