Finding My Style

Most times when I am asked about capsule wardrobes the trouble comes in with pairing items that make compatible outfits. Capsule wardrobes are meant to bring ease, so let’s not stress too much about making it perfect. That takes time, and the first step to that would be finding your style.

What makes me feel the best?

I have always loved dresses, boots, and ruffles. Those are things that make me excited to get dressed. When you’re an outfit repeater, you need that joy, as you have many basics.

What is comfortable on my body?

I don’t subscribe to the belief that we can only wear what’s flattering. I believe we decide what is flattering, and what parts of our bodies we want to draw attention to. I like silhouettes that highlight my curves.  There is a difference in working through body issues, and wearing things where discomfort is written on my face.

What colors do I like on myself?

This changes for me seasonally. Since we are in autumn, I wear earth tones with brighter pops here and there. I think oranges, reds, and yellows bring a glow to my skin.

How do I add textures/prints?

This is another area where you can be playful. Chunky knits, ribbed fabric, and bold prints can bring so much personality to your outfit. I toss layers over solid dresses and skirts to make outfits feel new all the time. I’ll note a great resource for experimenting with style is the thrift store.

I hope these questions help y'all figure out some personal style foundation.

I said it before, but it can take time. It also evolves. I lived in a larger body growing up, lost one hundred pounds, became a young mom, so my body has done so much for me. My interests and needs of clothing are much different these days as well. All of that comes into consideration, and I hope you’re met with gentleness in your style self-discovery.

XO,
