Black History Month for Toddlers Pt.2

Eek, I’m so excited y’all came to check out part two of Black History for Toddlers!

This line up aligns with my littles’ interests, so it’s a bunch of fun. The point of these lessons is to instill positive representation of Black people. I want to build my kids up, so they’re not easily knocked down. Well before this gets emotional, let’s get to it!

Gordon Parks

One of the greatest photographers, with a commitment to social justice.

Ways to celebrate Gordon Parks:

-          Make a camera craft

-          Read/ Listen to Gordon Parks by Carole Boston Weatherford

-          Let your kids take pictures on phone/ disposable camera

(Praise them on the images they take, their perspective matters)

Alfred L. Cralle

Alfred L Cralle made our lives sweeter when he invented the ice cream scoop!

Ways to celebrate Alfred L Cralle:

-          Eat Ice Cream! (Let your littles use the scoop themselves)

-          Do an Ice Cream lesson using shapes, numbers, letters, etc.

-          Make an Ice Cream Craft

-          Read, The Scoop on Inventors by Mon Trice (This one is SO good!)

George Washington Carver

"Nothing is more beautiful than the loveliness of the woods before sunrise."

Ways to celebrate George Washington Carver:

-Read Carver Loved Plants or In the Garden with George Washington Carver

- Do a number sense activity with peanuts

- Make peanut butter cookies

-Color GWC flipbook and add facts (Ours is from ABSee Me)

Misty Copeland

"This is for the little brown girls."

Ways to celebrate Misty Copeland:

-Read/ Listen to Bunheads (PBS has a Misty Copeland read aloud)

-Ballet Craft

-Ballet Dance (Watch Sesame Street Stretch with Elmo and Misty Copeland)

-Discuss the experience Misty had leading to becoming the first Black principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre.

Thanks for taking the time to read. I hope y’all enjoy and learn with your littles.

Comment and let me know which activity is your favorite!

XO,
