Homeschool Preschool: Winter Unit
I am doing a preschool unit breakdown. This
one is more in depth than the Fall pumpkin unit, so I am splitting it up. Got
to keep it Shortte and sweet!
I picked a few books to base the activities
off just to keep it simple for Micah and I. Remember you can get the books from
your local library do not feel presured to buy anything. First book up is
Penguin and Pinecone.
I love how this book celebrates winter and
friendship. Reading it, Micah went through the highs and lows of the story
expressing his feelings. That is an extra bonus, and it is a sweet story.
The activities we did for penguin week:
Feed the Penguin
Materials:
Cardboard
Colorful card stock
Glue
Scissors
What to do:
- Cut
out a hole in cardboard for penguin mouth
- Cut
out and glue penguin shape to the cardboard
- Cut
out a variety of fish (Label them numbers, letters, even words)
- Feed
the penguin! (Build a story around this activity)
Penguin and Pinecone Characters
Materials:
2 Pinecones
Colorful card stock
Orange felt
Glue
Scissors
What to do:
- Cut
out penguin shape and glue to one Pinecone
- Cut
out two "scarves" out the felt and glue one to each Pinecone
- Voilà
(re reading the story with your own characters makes it more fun for your
little)
P Word Penguin
Materials:
Paper
Marker
Crayons
P sight words
What to do:
- Draw
a penguin outline on paper
- Fill
in body parts with different sight words
- Have
your child say and color each word
See, simple and very little materials. I hope
that this helps inspire some creative homeschool activities. We keep core activities every week that include alphabet, counting, shapes, and tracing. We do
homeschool three days a week, and I will be sharing new ideas every week. Happy
learning!
XO,
*If you search on YouTube, Pinkfong has
two penguin songs. One is a penguin dance that helps learn left and right. The
other is Five Little Penguins.
Some great movies for a preschooler would be Happy Feet and March of the Penguins.
